SOPs are step-by-step instructions that outline how to complete a task or process consistently and efficiently

In cannabis cultivation, they are tools that allow for repetition and act as a road map to support a grower from propagation to harvest.

Are they necessary?

Yes.

However, the key is to develop SOPs that are customized for each business, cultivation environment, market, and desired outcome.

They are in place to empower cultivators not replace them.

In my opinion generic SOP templates, which I see being sold to industry startups, are not the answer.

SOPs should be formulated and personalized for each business.

Customized SOPs contribute to the uniqueness of a product and the uniqueness helps brands stand out in a sea of conformity.
